Summary

The Assistant Controller works with the Corporate Controller in overseeing the Company’s accounting and financial reporting operations. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, they will collaborate with various departments within the company to ensure a thorough understanding of various initiatives and timely completion of projects. The Assistant Controller oversees proper accounting treatment of all transactions in accordance with GAAP, ensuring consistent application and inclusion in quarterly and annual SEC filings and compliance with applicable regulations.

 

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper accounting treatment and consistent application of all transactions in accordance with US GAAP
  • Research accounting requirements and implications for special transactions, including technical memos/whitepapers to support final accounting treatment
  • Management of technical accounting requirements for collaborations and partnerships
  • Stay current with new accounting standards and SEC regulations, inform management of implications of new accounting developments and develop implementation plans
  • Develop and maintain appropriate documented accounting policies
  • Oversee an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close process
  • Support proxy and statutory reporting requirements
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 requirements, including the maintenance of documentation, testing procedures and remediation activities
  • Oversee the accounts payable process, including weekly payment processing
  • Assist the Controller in daily banking needs
  • Serve as a liaison between the company and the external auditors to provide required information and maintain historical records
  • Support finance team and company as a whole with special projects and ad-hoc reporting requests
  • Additional responsibilities within reasonable scope of the position may be requested by management
  • Oversee a team of 3 direct reports

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • CPA required
  • Minimum 7 years of experience
  • SEC reporting experience required
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Biotechnology experience is preferred, but not required
  • Demonstrated success building relationships and partnering with cross functional internal and external stakeholders
